Been busy with the beginnings of the build phase of my AR project, tentatively named EveriLearn.com.

I still need to purchase the domain name, currently I'm utilizing WordPress to build the simple blog and course catalog.  I will soon need to  find a WordPress hosting site, upload WordPress Multi-User and BlogPress.  Both these WordPress add-ins are required to add the multi-user functionality to my course site.

I have located and started to utilize the following site to help me with this buildout. It contains tons of video and written tutorials.

At same time, I am beginning the build of actual coursework.  Utilizing Adobe Flash to make a highly interactive class.  I am quite proficient with this tool, so I won't be blogging too much about this effort here, just wanted to mention it.

The Corkboard

The decision to work WordPress as my AR project LMS has been very fruitful. I have searched through many example sites and research blogs regarding this tool's use as a content management system. One of the best site's has been put together by a doctoral student in library sciences. You can find the blog here.

Here's an example of the University of Mary Washington's school site utilizing WordPress as both a student's blog site and their learning management system.  Students log into the site, link through to course catalog.  Moreover by clicking on a course title, the student will then enter the course's blog site, administered by the teacher, where they can link to the course's syllabus, texts and grades.  Other school's site features include an area for students' blogs, message board, clubs and groups.

I have decided to utilizeWordPress as my development platform for the learning management system (LMS) to contain the Flash-based courses.
WordPress has several advantages as a LMS; it's an open source environment, their are boatloads of plugins and widgets to enhance your site, and finally, WordPress can be configured to allow your community of users to interact, share their knowledge and opinions.  This combination of standardized LMS and customized personal learning environment (PLE) is very attractive to my Action Research project.  One caveat of my AR project is to promote both a Christian eLearning toolset and community of learners.  The relationships formed at church are an important aspect of our christian life and the eLearning environment can create a isolating factor.  This must be avoided.
